The purpose of the New Haven County Bar Association is to promote intellectual, social and any other pursuits that would uphold and perpetuate the highest standards of the legal profession in the Greater New Haven area. The Association strives to give its members the opportunity to meet, socialize, learn, and grow together in a cordial atmosphere.

The New Haven County Lawyer Referral Service is a not-for-profit public service that has referred members of the public to private attorneys for over 50 years. It is also a valuable member benefit. Participating attorneys receive pre-screened clients in those areas of law in which the attorney registers. The NHCBA receives client inquiries from both telephone calls and via the Internet. LRS membership is individual, not by firm, and is renewed annually through a payment of LRS dues ($95 NHCBA members, $225 non-NHCBA members). To participate, attorneys must be members in good standing of the bar, have no outstanding grievances (reviewed annually), and carry $1,000,000 in malpractice insurance. Several areas of law, called Experience Panels, require an additional application and fee. The service covers all of New Haven County, including the Greater New Haven, Shoreline, Valley and Waterbury regions, and is the only lawyer referral service in Connecticut that meets the American Bar Association's LRS standards. Contact us for more information on joining the service.
