NEW HAVEN, Conn– The New Haven County Bar Association’s 112th Annual Meeting and Dinner was held at Anthony’s Ocean View on October 3rd at 5:30 p.m.

This year two extraordinary judges were honored at the dinner. Chief Justice Richard Robinson presented Justice Lubbie Harper, Jr. with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Honorable Jack Keyes presented the Honorable Brian Fischer with the Yale Sappern Civility Award.

New officers were installed at the meeting. Giovanni F. Spennato, Chief Clerk, New Haven Superior Court, was installed as President with Shari Lynn Cuomo Shore of Wolf & Shore Law Group as President-Elect, Joseph M. Porto of Parrett, Porto, Parese & Colwell as Treasurer and Amanda C. Nugent of Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey LLP as Secretary.

New honorary members were celebrated having achieved 50 years of legal practice and remarkable contributions to our community and the profession: David Belt of Hurwitz, Sagarin, Slossberg & Knuff; Howard Kantrovitz of Gesmonde, Pietrosimone & Sgrignari; and Mario Zangari of Zangari Cohn Cuthbertson.

As Annual Dinner Committee Chair and incoming President, Giovanni Spennato, stated, “It is deeply humbling and an extraordinary honor to have chaired a dinner celebrating individuals with such rich traits of character and such profound accomplishment.

Giovanni Spennato’s selection to lead the NHCBA comes from his steadfast belief in the bar association’s positive role in the lives of legal professionals navigating the pressures and complexities of the practice of law. Giovanni has been a dedicated servant to the judicial system culminating with his appointment to Chief Clerk of the Superior Court of New Haven and in Meriden. Chief Clerk Spennato has a unique perspective: he has a view to the human side of how legal professionals and the public intersect with the law. This perspective informs his passioned commitment to the public he serves and the judiciary and lawyers with which he works.

In addition to his involvement in the NHCBA, he is a member of the Quinnipiac University School of Law Alumni Board, the Connecticut Italian American Bar Association and James W. Cooper Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation. Attorney Spennato is a board member of the Yale Sappern Memorial Fund and was the 2014 honoree at the Yale Sappern Memorial Fund Dinner.
