April 27 - CT Supreme Court Hears Oral Argument Remotely

Chief Justice Richard A. Robinson’s Opening Remarks

Good Morning, the Supreme Court for the State of Connecticut is now open and in session. For the record and for the first time in its history, oral argument for a term of court will be conducted by videoconference. I therefore would like to make a few remarks before we hear the first case.

Following the Governor's Executive Orders and Emergency Declaration in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, staff from the Appellate Division began to create a comprehensive plan that would allow this Court and the Appellate Court to continue to carry out their Constitutional duties through a remote video conference platform. It became clear that an indefinite postponement of hearings due to the current extraordinary circumstances, which will likely remain for the foreseeable future, was problematic.

Addressing this problem took vision and a collective tireless mentality to meet the self-imposed deadline to begin to hear eighth term cases on time. Various individuals from the Appellate Division, Superior Court Operations Division and members of the Appellate Section of the Connecticut Bar Association worked together to achieve this goal, and that work is worthy of thanks and recognition.
