Job Opening: Communications & Special Events Assistant

The New Haven County Bar Association (“NHCBA”) is a not-for-profit professional organization of over 1,300 New Haven area attorneys, judges, paralegals, and legal professionals that provides member services as well as programs for the Greater New Haven community.

The NHCBA has a part-time position open for an individual with communications & event coordination experience. Person must be outgoing with excellent public relations and leadership skills. Position includes frequent interactions with the public and legal community. This position reports to the executive director.

Duties would include:

·        Website & Social Media Maintenance. Responsible for the ongoing maintenance of website including content creation, gathering news and posting photos. Also, upkeep of Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages.

·        Newsletter. Responsible for the Association’s member newsletter Marble Columns,  and e-newsletter Marble Bytes, including writing and editing content, assisting with design and layout while working with the NHCBA’s Newsletter Committee. Coordinate production and mailing, meeting publication deadlines. The newsletters are circulated to members digitally and in print.

·        Public Relations. Responsible for public relations activities and releases for the Association and The Foundation of the New Haven County Bar.

·        Continuing Legal Education Assistant. Assist executive director with communications with the CLE Committee, curriculum development, recruiting faculty, and production of course promotional materials and handouts.

·        Event Planning. Primary staff coordinator on event planning, including event details, negotiations, marketing, and on-site management. Includes Bench-Bar receptions, Service of Remembrance, Clerk Appreciation Lunch, Annual Dinner, Holiday Party, Summer Outing, and Golf Tournament.

·        Lawyer Referral Service Referral Consultant. Assist Program Coordinator with client intake done by telephone and making referrals to attorneys.

Must convey outstanding customer relations attitude and possess strong computer and database skills including proficiency in InDesign, organizational skills, communications & marketing skills, telephone manners, and ability to multi-task, and work independently. Fast-paced small office, compensation includes parking, and retirement plan. Salary is $15 - $17/hour.
