Lawyer Referral Service Committee

Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) is a not-for-profit program that refers members of the public to pre-screened, qualified attorneys. The attorneys are all members in good standing of the New Haven County Bar Association, have completed specific applications to participate, carry malpractice insurance, and are evaluated once a year to be sure they have no outstanding grievances with the State of Connecticut.

The LRS Committee is responsible for overseeing and supporting the administration of the LRS program. The LRS Committee meets monthly to review financial reports, discuss business operations, resolve problems, and collaborate on ideas to help the LRS function more effectively and more efficiently.

Recent Activities

LRS continues to sponsor Ask-A-Lawyer sessions, in which members of the public are invited to speak with volunteer attorneys at local libraries at no cost to the public. Volunteer attorneys handle questions on all legal matters ranging from car accidents to probate matters to real estate to divorce. Everyone is seen, and everyone is given the opportunity to meet with a lawyer free of charge.

Future Activities

Ask-A-Lawyer events are currently held six times a month in Northford, Branford, East Haven, Cheshire, and New Haven public libraries, as well as at Yale University. A schedule of upcoming Ask-A-Lawyer sessions can be found here.

Committee Participation

The LRS Committee meets once every month at the NHCBA Office on Orange Street. New members are always welcome. If you are interested in joining our committee, please feel free to contact Kiernan Michau or Lou Federici.
